Presenting research results at Brown University

During his research stay in the USA, Jan-Bernd Igelmann visited Chris Schmied at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Chris Schmied is a Mercator Fellow in the DFG project “Valid methods for meta-analyses with few studies or small numbers of cases - Part II”, which is led by Prof. Markus Pauly together with Prof. Tim Friede.
Jan-Bernd gave two talks at the Department of Biostatistics on his recent research results, including the impact and interpretation of back-transformations in meta-analysis as well as the possibility of using tree ensembles to detect interaction effects in meta-regressions. Afterwards, he had an intensive exchange with members of the Center for Evidence Synthesis in Health (CESH) about developments in evidence synthesis and opportunities for future joint research.
Brown was founded in 1764 and is one of the oldest universities in the United States, belonging to the Ivy League. On a walk through the city, the group showed Jan-Bernd the historic campus buildings and retraced the history of the American War of Independence, in which Providence played an important role.
