As part of the Young Statistician Session of the Central European Network Conference 2026 in Warsaw, Paula Lorenz was awarded for her Bachelor's thesis.

Her thesis, titled "Variable Selection in Meta-Regression with Suspected Interaction Effects," was supervised by Prof. Markus Pauly and mentored by Jan-Bernd Igelmann. In her work, Paula investigated how to systematically select appropriate variables in meta-regression models when interaction effects are suspected. This is a practical challenge in meta-analyses, where many potential explanatory variables must be weighed against a limited number of available studies. She compared tree-based methods such as meta-CART with classical approaches like significance testing and information criteria, illustrated with a medical example on acute heart failure.

The Young Statistician Session is hosted by the Young Statisticians Working Group of the German Region of the International Biometric Society (IBS-DR).
